Rules:
- Vote for 2 icons of the least quality. Reasons such as 'I don't like' or 'It's too plain' are not allowed. Actually think about why you are voting out the icon. If the icon is too plain, why is that bad thing? What could have been done to improve the icon?
- Also vote for 1 icon that you feel is the best quality. The reason for this one is optional but encouraged.
- Keep your icon identity hidden until after the results are posted. Do not vote for yourself or get anyone to vote for you.
- You do not have to be a participant to vote (the more the merrier!).
- Positive votes do not take away from the amount of negative votes. This will change in the event of a tie.
- One person will be eliminated as the result of the voting.
- The comments are screened.
- If you entered and do not vote then you will not be eligible for Community's Choice or Mod's Choice.

Date: 2016-09-11 06:22 am (UTC)1 - the aspect ratio seems a little off, so slight that i'm not sure if i'm seeing things or not, or it could be that the texture is throwing it a little off balance for me, making the left hand side look quite blunt, i like the black and white colouring, but it looks a little pixelated/grainy
3 - lovely colouring, but it's a little blurry for me and that makes it look a bit flat - the right side is also a little too blockish as the side of her face takes up that side and it makes her face look a bit stretched because of the cropping.

5 - that colouring so soft and matte, i love it!
please let me know if these reasons don't 100% make sense, i feel I'm already struggling to pick least faves!

07 - I really like the cheerful cap you chose. The coloring and sharpness looks a little flat on my monitor, though. The 1px border behind her draws the eye because it is the sharpest thing in the icon. I would suggest leaving out the border, or blurring it or lowering its opacity. To give the face more depth, higher contrast would be good. In PS, add a simple b/w Gradient Map adjustment layer and set it to Soft Light. In other tools, increase contrast a little. If that's not enough, you can try sharpening it (but more contrast automatically looks sharper).
08 - I very much like your text work here! Good font choice and well readable, and fitting the cap. You worked out the red wounds in her face really well, too. Unfortunately, it made the rest of her face a bit pink. I can imagine the grungy noisy texture is supposed to underscore the "dust" aspect. It makes the image look a little LQ, though. Toning down the dust would give the icon more depth.

02 - I like the composition and the coloring. And it's really funny!

Date: 2016-09-11 11:57 am (UTC)#1 - The crop is nice, but Spike is not well proportioned, meaning that the aspect ratio is too wide. It could be a screencap thing, but it's really simple to fix this issue. I'd suggest dragging the edges together until you feel it's the right position ;)
#7 - Lovely crop! But Buffy looks too flat on my screen. I'd suggest to rise the contrast and sharpening. A black and white gradient map set on soft light would do the trick :)

# 1 - reason: It also looks blurry (and a little pixel-y at the same time?), and the white half-frame seems a liuttle out of the blue; it undermines the lovely crop and feels very distracting to me.

# 8 - reason (optional): The coloring, the cropping and the slightly grainy touch make this one appear like from an old (horror?)movie. It looks dynamic and kind of exciting. The writing is very clear and fits the pic perfectly.
Also: Funny how #7 and #11 did almost the same crop of almost the same cap!

Date: 2016-09-11 03:41 pm (UTC)#1 - the image looks a little stretched so the icon looks distorted. Also the border blends into the lightest part of the photo used which is making the icon not balanced in my opinion.
#8 - the icon looks over colorized, skin is way too pink/purple. I do like the text and placement though.

Date: 2016-09-11 07:53 pm (UTC)7 - It's a great crop, but the icon lacks colour and contrast. Some brightening and sharpening along with some stronger colours would have really made this a fantastic icon.
8 - I love the grungy effect and the quote but Buffy's face blends into the background a little too much, some sharpening of the features and blurring of the skin would have made it really stand out.

13 - I love the crop! And the skin tone colours along with the shadows and highlights on Buffy's face is excellent! Great job on the sharpness and blurring too.

# 4 - I really like the crop and colouring of this icon, but the placement of the text right across Buffy's chin is rather distracting.

PS: shout out to #12, which I really really liked as well.

#7 - The icon lacks of contrast, it feels flat, adding some light and shadows would help make it pop out more.

13 - I love the coloring of this icon, but the crop is a little awkward by cutting off Buffy's chin. I feel like it would have worked better either moved up a little bit, or moved over to the right so it's not so centered
1 - The crop is good on this one, but the aspect ratio looks just a tad off on my screen... Also, the icon would probably look better without the white texture on the left
